Sitting down? Okay, I have an Intex pool pump measuring 15ft. by 4ft. It came with the standard cartridge filter pump. This worked well the first summer. That was 4 years ago. Since then it has been a battle to get the pool clean and keep it that way. Last year I upgraded to a larger pump, but it still had the paper filters. I became aware that I could simply rinse them off and reuse so that I was not buying 6-8 cartridge filters a summer. I also added a saltwater system at this point. At the end of last season, a friend suggested that I leave the pool up over the winter. I followed all the steps online for closing a pool of this type.

However, I did not buy the best cover and bingo, my pool was full of junk this spring. I tried vacuuming the pool, but ended up destroying every cartridge filter I had and then some, plus my pool was not anywhere close to clean. I proceeded to drain, clean, and refill. Turned on my pump with a brand new filter and away we went. 24 hours later, my pool was again in bad shape. I had balanced the water prior to filtering, but now it was all messed up. I proceeded to buy a used sand filter. I now had a pump, sand filter, and chlorinator, all of it purchased used in an attempt to save money.

I had this system working 24/7, vacuuming daily, scrubbing the pool walls, back flushing and refilling every few hours. It still did not look like I was making progress. Called a pool guy last week. He came out and said the sand filter was too big and had a faulty valve so not only was I not filtering any of the water, I was blowing sand into the pool. To top it off, the debris that was evidently in the used filter, totally screwed up my salt water chlorinator.
